It all started when I popped my tire… I finished a long shift in the cold of red square and I was DETERMINED to get a cool new outfit for what Stacy and Cassidy invited me to the next morning. However my tire popped before I even left campus….
That, my friends is ME as HELL when my weekend plans flashed before my eyes as I heard that loud bang from my car rear.
Stacy and Cassidy invited me to an event at The Pickford early the next morning; brunch with filmmakers in the community and Dan Kitrosser, the screenwriter for We the Animals followed by a screening of the film… WHAT.
I MIGHT’VE RUINED MY CHANCES OF MY FIRST NETWORKING OPPORTUNITY!!!! AND ALSO SEEING AN AMAZING FILM!!!
Luckily after the panic settled down, I realized the last TTC intern didn’t have a car so the ladies would be probably more than happy to drive me.
SO I texted them, crisis averted.
I really, REALLY want to talk about the event.
We showed up, stylin (I didn’t get a new outfit though) and walked straight to the mimosas and breakfast pizza. Yes, there was breakfast pizza….
TWO of my professors were in attendance as well as an old classmate so I wasn’t super overwhelmed by too many higher ups or anything like that which was v nice.
I met some wonderful people who gave me lots of advice (knowing I’m a senior and an intern)
but DAN. DAN KITROSSER the SCREENWRITER came to talk to me and was * genuinely * interested in my life and my studies??? Wild. The food was good, the conversation was GREAT and the film was EVEN BETTER.
I don’t want to spoil too much about the film but if you get the chance to watch it I highly recommend it. It is an emotional story about 3 young Puerto Rican boys and their adventures away from their absent mom and in-and-out dad.
You can watch the trailer here- the cinematography and animation in it is SO good.
I titled this ANGRY and HAPPY because well I was so happy with this event… I got to thinking and so did Stacy and Cassidy on the ride home, why don’t more events like this happen? Of course it would be hard to get screenwriters all the time but the networking and gathering to view the film, it’s simple but it was such a great opportunity…. basically y’all
TTC WANTS MORE!
(By the way I got my tire fixed, you don’t have to hold your breath.)
