Whether you like Queen or not, (I don’t know how you could not like Queen) you’ve probably heard about “Bohemian Rhapsody” the new film depicting our boy Freddie and the rest of Queen on their journey through fame, life & whatnot, centering around Freddie of course.
I just have to say YOU GOTTA SEE IT. Rami Malek’s performance as Freddie got such high praise from the band (and for good reason) and it’s an open book into the life of Freddie Mercury and Queen.
What made me more obsessed though is the portrayal of Mercury’s unapologetic creativity and determinism.
Throughout the film he is constantly questioned and being suppressed and generally people try to put him in a box (along with the rest of Queen for that matter) and he just does NOT TAKE ANY OF IT. He knows his vision and what he wants and he will not let ANYONE ruin that or stand in the way of it.
It sounds super cliche but THAT is something I aspire to be like. Going into a creative field and also being a woman, sometimes you forget you can even stray from the box at all. Freddie said “what box?” I mean there’s literally a scene where he and the rest of the band fire a producer for not trusting their vision for a song. Super risky but they knew what they wanted and didn’t care about anything else. I know if a film or actor has inspired me to be any certain way afterwards, it’s a successful freakin film.
Also I have not stopped listening to Queen for a week since I saw the film and I will be seeing it again Sunday TYSM Rami Malek and Bryan Singer and the rest of the cast and also Queen and FREDDIE FREAKIN MERCURY for existing.
I hope you all see it
