A movie a week, and I get to go for FREE? This internship thing is truly beautiful and amazing.
For my first film, I saw The Post. A movie starring two of everyone’s favorite actors, Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks. The pairing was a match made in movie heaven.
<-------- (why we have not seen this duo together before I will never understand)
Meryl (oh yes, we are definitely on a first name basis, thanks for asking) plays a woman not really ready to be in the powerful feminist role she was put in. As owner of The Washington Post, she is in a position of immense power without really knowing what to do with it. At least at the beginning.
Her character grows and develops and becomes a POWERHOUSE. In the words of the great Bey "who run the world??? GIRLS" By the end of the movie, Katharine (Meryl) is running the damn show. And also becoming mortal enemies with freaking Richard Nixon. She is on a roll that's for sure.
It's hard to watch this movie without thinking about the current state of media and politics in America (okay I know that sounds stuffy, but seriously folks!!!!!) Consider the correlations. In the movie and in real life we've got presidents at war with the media, we've got media competition for readership left and right, and we've got women coming into their own and taking over their stories.
Also, Tom Hanks. Need I say more.
