The visuals were amazing!!! I saw this one in standard def (not 3D or IMAX because I like it the old fashioned way). Even without all the craziness of 3D this movie visually blew my mind. It was on par with Avatar or Interstellar.
I don’t always love action, superhero movies, but this one had a plot and a set of characters that kept me engaged. Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan killed in the two lead roles. They were both complex and interesting and had a complicated hero/foe thing going on. The supporting cast was great as well. The female characters had serious action scenes and strong personalities which is a big ole win for the lalalalaladies.
The whole cast worked together with good chemistry and storytelling techniques. The movie explored racism and oppression and complicated foreign relations stuff. Pretty impressive for an action blockbuster movie.
I loved this movie, but.... My one complaint is about the use of dumb, cheap humor for some kind of crowd pleasing effect. I'm talking about the scene where T'Challa and his sister are hanging and he asks her what something is and she counters with the so overused "the real question is what are thoooooose???" Okay, yes that was funny for like one week eight months ago, but c'mon. Maybe I’m just a grump, but if I’m at an action movie about a fantasy world I don’t want to be bombarded with pop culture references and silly humor that doesn’t fit the mood of the film. Let's stick to what you're good at people.
I digress. The movie overall was a really fun visual trip and a great performance by some solid actors. Just maybe leave the jokes behind next time.
