OKKKKK..... I know I've been talking shit everywhere I can about this movie. And enough people have called me on the fact that I haven't even seen it yet. So I had to go see it (and hopefully back myself up)
I've been saying for months that this movie should not win the best picture award at the Oscars. And after seeing it, I stand by this. (Yay, win for Sophie).
But now that I've seen it I do have to give some pretty serious props to the creators and those who came up with such a creative idea. Visually this movie was pretty damn spectacular. The color schemes and visual effects kinda blew my mind.
The movie brings up some really important issues too. Which is GREAT. Don't get me wrong I think these issues, like marginalization and stigma, are hugely important and need to be addressed.
BUT I think this movie could have been a little more nuanced and a little less heavy handed. And I still don't think it deserved the best picture award. I stand by my top choices of Three Billboards and I, Tonya, but The Shape of Water is still worth watching. It is a wild trip into a wild world of fantasy and the love story is pretty classic too.
